"I’ve been in the food industry for 30 years now. I feel like it kind of chose me.
I grew up in a very Italian family and we always had dinner on the table from a good cook, so food was just natural for me.
I love physically working and bringing people to a table - whether it's with wine or whether it's with food. If you hang out here long enough, you'll realize it’s all about flavor. I’m kind of a soul cook, I like to do it all by feel."
My Advice for Others
"You just have to love it and if you don't love it, you’ve got to run from it.
It's so much work, but every day you’re getting these little bits of gratitude back form the people in the shop, that you see smiling after they're eating something and it's delicious. That just makes my day.
If you don’t like working hard, if you don’t like getting your hands dirty, you gotta go!
You can't be a tourist in this business, or it's going to cost you a fortune and you're going to waste a lot of time before you realize it's not for you."
What I Love Most about Ventura
"It’s pretty chill. Ventura is kind of like the last town in California that’s waiting to be discovered, right on the beach. The last 3 years it's been growing in popularity but it's still really chill. It’s nice, it’s mellow and everyone kinda knows each other - it’s still small."
