"In 1983, we set out from our home in Key West for Hood River. My parents are hopeless board heads, just shameless windsurfing addicts and this place called to them. So our entire family packed into our Minnie Winnie with exactly one Bob Marley cassette tape and set out for Oregon. We rolled into this town and never left.
We built Mike's to be a place for the entire community, and that's really important to us.
We try to keep the prices low so everyone has access. You can come to Mike's and feed a family of four for $10, and we're cash only because, honestly, we'd rather gift you your ice cream for free than deal with credit card companies and have to charge you more. We issue IOUs if you don't have enough cash and we get $3 checks from all over the world because of it!"
My Hood River Musts
"I'd start the day with a breakfast burrito and a latte at Dog River Coffee. Then get outside, like doing the Syncline Hike. Afterwards roll into lunch at Boda's Deli, which is epic. Then, a windsurf session at The Hatchery, and then after that, head to Double Mountain or pFriem, which are some of the go-to breweries. And of course, you've got to do some shopping next door at The Ruddy Duck."
