Kurt's Take

"Our friend Steve, a leatherworker, just opened up a great shop 2 doors down from us that you should definitely check out."

My Story

"I learned this craft from my dad and his father. My grandfather's shop was just 3 or 4 blocks away from this location.

After World War II, he and his brother came back looking for work and went into the saddle industry, then a few years after that, they opened up their own shop on De La Guerra Street here in Santa Barbara, so we're kind of returning to where they had that original shop.

That this is such a part of our family is constant inspiration for me. This is my passion. Even on the tough days, I get up and I have a real reason for why you're doing it.

I grew up in this, so it feels really comfortable and fun. I don't ever want to give up because it's something I have a lot of honor behind and I want to see it through."

My Santa Barbara Musts

"Cindy, who runs The Blue Owl, is one of my best friends and her shop is amazing."
